چکیده

The main methods used to implement WLAN-3G inter working are: the mobile IP methods, the emulator method, and the gateway method. Each one of these methods enjoys some pros and suffers from some cons. In this paper, It is demonstrated to evaluate certain aspects of WLAN-3G inter working. Here, case studies are addressed: based on results of the current researches and some simulations developed in this paper; in order to evaluate some aspects of inter working methods. Basically, in this paper, the main methods used to implement WLAN-3G inter working are evaluated from the handover delay point of view. It is seen how each method behaves in the case of handover and how long the user waits in case of hand-over between WLAN-3G service areas. All of these methods are compared were compared. Keywords— UMTS, WLAN, Interworking.

Common radio resource management for WLAN-UMTS integration at radio access level

WLAN-UMTS integration in the UMTS-based approach can be performed either at the UMTS Core Network (CN) or Radio Access Network (UTRAN). Both interworking solutions provide the operator with additional license-free bandwidth and promise good handover performance. Integration at the radio access level has the advantage that the UMTS core network protocols remain unaffected and the interworking ar...

3G and WLAN Interworking Security: Current Status and Key

The third-generation (3G) mobile communication systems provide great coverage, complete subscriber management and nearly universal roaming. Nevertheless, 3G systems are subject to the low data rates (2Mbps highest for WCDMA). WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) provides hot spot coverage with high data rates (reaches 54Mbps while 802.11 a/g), but is subject to short range (reaches 100m the furth...

Loosely Coupled Heterogeneous Networks Convergence using IMS-SIP-AAA

In this paper a heterogeneous network model based on the IMS-SIP (session Initiation protocol) with the help of Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) protocol that integrates the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technologies is proposed to improve QoS. The proposed Loos...

Performance and Handoff Evaluation of Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (hwns) Using Opnet Simulator

The need for coupling Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (HWNs) such as WLAN, WiMAX or UMTS, play a great role in developing towards fourth generation of wireless networks. Hence, the algorithms for these networks must be developed especially handoff algorithms to present a better performance in such heterogeneous networks. In this paper, several projects have different types of networks were impl...

Pre-Authentication Schemes for UMTS-WLAN Interworking

Interworking Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) and IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) introduce new challenges including the design of secured and fast handover protocols. Handover operations within and between networks must not compromise the security of the networks involved. In addition, handovers must be instantaneous to sustain the quality of service (QoS) of t...
